Archer City

A Booklovers Delight

A perfect day for Browsing Bibliophiles
ARCHER CITY – twenty five miles due south of Wichita Falls

One day tour from North Texas departures

This is a one day trip to Archer City to allow booklovers the chance to browse in the enormous establishment owned by noted Texas author Larry McMurtry (Lonesome Dove), the BOOKED UP BOOKSTORE. Four buildings full of used and rare books from all over the country!

Spaced throughout the day will be visits to the original and newly redone “Last Picture Show” Theater, (written about in the book/movie The Last Picture Show), the sites around the town used in that movie and also in Texasville, and the Archer County Museum. The Museum is located in the old county jail, and it comes complete with hanging platform.

Lunch will be on your own at one of the cafes around the square close to the bookstores. You can eat when and what you want, while taking a break from browsing.

Tour Highlights

For North Texas departures, your group will be entertained with a book review of a McMurtry classic by popular raconteur Rose-Mary Rumbley!

Tour Can Include

Another added special access attraction: For you courthouse lovers, we will provide a private tour through the Archer County Courthouse, recently completely redone – another of the welcome Texas Courthouse Restoration projects taking place across the State.

Please Note

Rose-Mary’s schedule gets “booked up” very far in advance, so to include her on your tour, book early!
