Albany Fort Griffin

The Fort Griffin Fandangle

& the best of the Wild West in the Texas Oil & Cattle Country!

Two days / one night, from North Texas departures

Ruins of Sutler’s Store

Tours to Albany to see The Fandangle must be scheduled for one of the last two weekends of June. General tours to the area are available all year round.

What in the world is a “Fandangle”? It is the outdoor drama, produced every year since 1938, on the pioneer settling of West Texas. Put on by the good folks of Albany, north of Abilene, it is performed near old Fort Griffin, a major military outpost that once protected the frontier of Texas. See a live herd of longhorn cattle herded onto the outdoor stage! Thrill to the saga of the rugged pioneers who settled this harsh ranch country, as their story is told in drama, song, dance and spectacle.

Tour Highlights

When leaving from North Texas, this is a full two-day motorcoach trip to the heart of the central Texas ranch and oil boom area. We will stop and sightsee in these towns on the way to Albany:

  • Thurber: An old coal mining ghost town. Is there anyone still alive there?
  • Ranger: Went from 1,000 to 30,000 people in one year when the gushers blew in.
  • Eastland: Home of some offbeat oddities: Rip the Toad and the Post Office Stamp Mural.
  • Cisco: You’ll see Conrad Hilton’s first hotel.
