This day trip to Archer City is scheduled for the time when a herd of longhorn cattle will be driven up the Chisolm Trail to Kansas, just as they used to do in the 1800s. You will be able to see the cattle, the cowboys and their encampment at the Rodeo Grounds, after they parade down the Main Street by the Courthouse! You’ll also have time to shop the enormous Booked Up bookstore of famed author Larry McMurtry who just might be there that day.

We will see the sites in town associated with McMurtry’s book and movie The Last Picture Show, including that melancholy theater itself.

On the way up we will entertained by popular raconteur Rose-Mary Rumbley with tales of the Chisholm Trail and reviews of some of Larry’s famous novels!
